Fanvid: No Escape

For the entertainment of those who enjoy such things, herewith is my first Criminal Minds fanvid, about Gideon's relationship with Sarah Jacobs.

Gideon-related spoilers up to season 3 episode 1. Trigger warnings: (skip) Also warnings for violent imagery and implication of suicide.

I've been ripping all my CM DVDs and converting all the files to .mov, which is fun.... Since I was doing that anyway, I ended up clipping the scenes I'd need for three fanvids at once. Or it might have been the other way around - that all the ripping/converting seemed too much effort until I had three fanvids queued up in my head.

I started/finished this one first because it's ridiculously simple, as fanvids go. The main challenge was trying to make it not look too much like I just grabbed a few scenes and mashed them together, especially because that's what I mostly did. :-) My first draft was too slow; smallcaps suggested cutting some of the musical interludes out, which I did and it helped a lot.

Obviously I think that Gideon's part in season 3 episode 2 was written to allay shrieks of "You can't do that!" about his suicide. (I think I first read this suggestion from matociquala.)

The title is from the song, obviously, and a weak play on the episode title where we meet Frank, "No Way Out". It's not my favourite title of all time, I must admit.

Software used:

• MacTheRipper to rip the DVDs;
• ffmpegX to convert files to .mov;
• Streamclip to get clips out;
• iMovie for the bulk of the editing;
• Audacity for cutting bits out of the music;
• (And GIMP for the current project for a couple of things that required a still image).

I don't know the original but I like it a lot. The music, too.
