In which she hangs the washing
Dec. 13th, 2014 02:08 pmSo there I am, hanging up the washing, and this happens:

Apparently this has been happening:

So since my washing still needs drying I've now done this:

But I feel further action needs to be taken for the longterm and I don't know where to even start looking in the Yellow Pages....

Date: 2014-12-13 05:27 am (UTC)I don't know how the support pipe is attached to the ground, but I'd expect that you could measure the size of pipe and get a replacement from a builder's supply or a gas-fitters. Digging up the old pipe -- that is truly some glorious rust -- ought to give the right size hole to set the new one in concrete in, and that comes (at least hereabouts) in pre-mix bags for the purpose where you can dump the bag down the hole and then add water.
All moot if the upper bits are creaking to their end, too, of course.

Date: 2014-12-13 09:00 am (UTC)The repair place I've found lists repairs for the "top pipe" but not for the main support pipe itself. Worth asking. But as you say, with that much rust there, I wouldn't be surprised if the rest was just as bad and it was just a roll of the die which bit broke first.
Theoretically it looked like it was possible to unscrew the top but in practice I think that connection's all rusted too. I'd just previously assumed that it was rusted-stuck, rather than rusted-an-inch-from-disintegration.
