In which Boots gets a new toy

It is small and grey and furry and has a long tail, and at some point it used to be alive. Boots is having tremendous fun batting it around the kitchen and growls if she thinks I'm going to take it off her. If she doesn't eat it before bedtime I'll confiscate it anyway, lest she bring it into some carpeted area of the house.

ETA: Oddly, mice sound juicier being eaten than kibble does. Nomnom.

I had a deal with my cats. If they caught and ate prey outside where I couldn't see it, that was their business. But any prey brought inside was exchanged for a nice treat. They were supposed to hunt, so I didn't want to dissuade them, but I didn't want them bringing in live creatures, which they would then lose behind the fridge etc, leading to much fuss and bother in order to get the creature out again.

Also though the cats liked eating some of the creatures they caught, not everything agreed with them. Short tailed voles were delicious and digestible. Mice seemed to be delicious, but didn't always stay down. :(
