After a year and a half of sleeping on my bed against the lump made by my shins (broken by the occasional night on top of the wardrobe if feeling sick, or out prowling if feeling restless), suddenly for the last three nights Boots has decided to sleep alone on my beanbag.
(Granted it's a very cool beanbag: it's zebra-stripes and it was a house-warming present from my friends at work, and I've sat on it so much myself that I need to give it new beans sometime.)
So I was indulging her in this and half missing the lump she made, half relishing having the whole bed to myself. So then last night at oh dark thirty she wakes me with a quiet mew. "Hungry already?" I thought. "This is what happens when I feed her too early in the evening." I was sleeping on my stomach at the time so my head was under the pillow already, so I just lay very very still and after a minute she wandered away.
(Then I lay very still trying to figure out if she was doing a Lassie and trying to warn me of burglars or gas leaks or something. She's never done this before but then I've never had burglars or gas leaks or anything before. OTGH she seems more the kind to just save herself, and I couldn't hear or smell anything anyway.)
So I fell back to sleep, until a while later she jumps up by my pillow. By this time I was on my side so I whimsically lifted the covers for her. Normally she takes much persuading to get under the covers, and only stays for a couple of minutes. But last night she got under right away and stayed there curled up next to me for the rest of the night until my alarm went off.
Cats. Weird beasts.
Maybe she had bad dreams or something.
