In which she notes a counterintuitive thing
One would think that at a certain point it'd be a relief to move beyond reading obsessively about the earthquake and turn instead to what's going on in the wider world.
But when I read the newspaper the other day I found that reading about anything other than Christchurch was rather depressing. Because the news reported about Christchurch was all, "Yay, people are brave! Yay, people are generous! Yay, so much has survived!" But the news reported about everywhere else was all ugliness and nastiness.
My city it is awesome. So is the rest of the world really, but you'll never know it from reading the newspapers.
