In which she loses water again

zeborahAbsentmindedly flushed the toilet last night (really it could have waited until today) and heard a resounding silence where I should have heard the tank refilling. Double-checked at a tap and sure enough my water's stopped working again. Oh well, just means walking down to the tanker. Well, and walking out back to my hole-in-the-ground. I like to think of it as camping with a really solid tent, comfy sleeping bag, electricity and wifi.
Limited postal services will resume today (Tuesday 1 March), primarily in the northern and western areas of Christchurch.
Sigh, the northwest gets all the good stuff.... Not that I was expecting anything, oh wait I was. Well, one never knows.
Builder came to look at my chimney - hasn't time to take it down himself before leaving town but will refer to a friend of his. (Yes, I've taken photos for insurance.) Filled out my EQC claim and contacted insurance company with details.
The lights in my entrance hall make a great early warning system for an aftershock. The slightest tremor (eg me walking beneath them) makes them tinkle. So if I'm sitting quietly and they start tinkling I know in a second the rest of the house will start shaking too. --Also, the 4.3 we had a bit after 9am this morning was fascinating the way the house moved around me. It rolled so gracefully the quake almost didn't seem as big as it was.
Rescue workers found two time capsules with a hand-written letter in the plinth under the John Robert Godley (a city founder) statue in the Square! ...This blows my mind a bit. It's seriously cool, and yet... What would they have thought about it being found in such circumstances?
In "Society collapses, looters run riot" news, "There was no earthquake-related crime overnight, described as 'fantastic' result by police".
"Limited bus services are due to resume Wednesday 2 March." (I'm guessing this will be limited to the northern and western suburbs. :-) --Seriously, there aren't that many roads around here it would be good for a bus to go on.) The water supply will be chlorinated (apparently an issue for people on dialysis but for public health a very good thing).
There's a work meeting at my manager's house this afternoon. I hoped I might make it by getting a lift from someone but due to poor roads I'd have to walk two hours to meet her. One hour would have been fine... Oh well, I should go and walk around now to the water tanker instead.
